MEET MARCIA E. DEGEER, PARTNER

Having been raised in the mid-coast and now living here with her own family, Marcia is committed to the local businesses and families that are the lifeblood of our region's communities and economy. She is a problem-solver at heart and seeks to find the most practical and reasonable legal resolutions to her clients issues. Her practice spans transactional matters, mediation and litigation for individuals, families and commercial clients. She brings deep experience in guiding families through difficult transitions that involve divorce and parental rights, ensuring the best care and decision-making for elders, and crafting wills, trusts and other documents as part of end-of-life planning. She also enjoys the daily challenges of managing and building a busy practice as well as serving as a mentor.

Marcia received her undergraduate degree from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington (BA 1998). She graduated cum laude from New England Law/Boston (JD 2003) and was admitted to the practice of law in New York State in 2004 and Maine in 2010. Marcia is a rostered Guardian Ad Litem with the Maine District Court and a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for children) as well as a trained mediator. She started practicing law as an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Meagher, and Flom, LLP in New York City. When she returned to Maine, she founded the Law Office of Marcia E. DeGeer, which she operated from 2011 to 2015, before merging with Gallagher and Stein to create Gallagher, Villeneuve and DeGeer, PLLC.

Marcia lives in Nobleboro with her husband Derek of Hootenanny Bread and their daughter. She is a member of the Maine State Bar Association where she is a member of both the Family Law and the Elder Law Sections and has served as a District 4 Governor on the Board. She is also a member of the Lincoln County Bar Association. She is President of the Board of Directors of Maine Family Planning; has served on the Board of Healthy Kids in Lincoln County and is on the strategic advisory group at the Damariscotta Montessori School. She is a certified Yoga instructor and enjoys spending her free time kayaking and hiking with her family and friends.
